Former Democratic Speaker Of The Missouri House, Steve Gaw, Meets with Clark and Scotland County Leaders

(Holts Summit, MO - July 1, 2008) - Steve Gaw, Democratic candidate for Congress in Missouri's 9th District, will be touring the Kahoka and Memphis courthouses on Wednesday.

Gaw will be speaking with voters in both counties about the economy and fuel prices as part of a district tour that continues into next week, where he will visit St. Charles, Boone, Callaway, Ralls and Pike counties. He will begin Wednesday in Clark county in the early afternoon and continue to Scotland county.

"When it costs over $100 for a farmer to fill up his truck," Gaw told a recent northern Missouri audience, "something is wrong. Such a large expense is too much of a burden for so many families in this district."

Gaw, born and raised in Randolph County, identifies with rural voters that are hurting economically. "Being from the ninth district, I understand families are struggling with the current economic situation. It's this perspective that will serve me in Congress and help me bring positive change to the people of this district."

Earlier this week, Gaw became the first candidate in the hotly contested Democratic primary to hit the airwaves. The ad, called "Gaw Boots," touts the former Speaker's rural upbringing. "Steve has a serious advantage by being the first on the air," said campaign manager Jeremiah Levine. "Steve's record of leadership here made him the front-runner, and this cements it."
